Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (or milk for a lighter version)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Peel and chop russet potatoes into even chunks. Place them in a large pot and cover with cold water.
- Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then add a generous pinch of salt. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook for 15-20 minutes until fork-tender.
- Drain the potatoes in a colander; return them to the pot over low heat for 1-2 minutes to evaporate excess moisture.
- Mash the potatoes using a potato masher, adding butter first until melted, followed by heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until creamy.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, then serve warm with optional melted butter drizzled on top.
